Petition
We, the undersigned call on Birmingham City Council to put a pedestrian crossing on Farnborough Road, Castle Vale outside the swimming baths so children can cross safely.
Background information
Farnborough Road is the busiest road on Castle Vale and lacks any kind of suitable pedestrian crossings that force cars to stop. Cars regularly speed on this road.
On 21/09/2011 Callum Henry was tragically killed whilst crossing this road on his bike. This may have been prevented with a crossing.
The 4 primary schools on the estate use this road to get to the swimming baths.
A pedestrian crossing is urgently needed.

Dialogue
The Cabinet Member for Finance has given approval for works to be carried out from the Local Improvement Budget. The works have been identified through discussion with Ward Councillors and following receipt of the two petitions following a child fatality on Farnborough Road. A zebra crossing will be constructed on Farnborough Road opposite the Castle Pool public swimming baths. In addition to providing a controlled crossing point, the zebra crossing will offer better connectivity between residential properties and Castle Pool. A 20mph zone is also proposed across Castle Vale Estate. Such a measure is expected to reduce vehicle speeds thereby making the estate safer for all highway users but this is subject to consultation.
